Joint Members Luncheon featuring the Honorable Nat Glover, former Sheriff of Duval County

Tuesday, February 27, 2024, Noon to 1:00 p.m
In partnership with the D.W. Perkins Bar, please join us to hear The Honorable Nat Glover, former Sheriff of Duval County, speak about his book, Striving for Justice: A Black Sheriff in the Deep South. As a young man in segregated Jacksonville, Nat inadvertently found himself in the middle of the racial violence of Ax Handle Saturday as he was walking home from his restaurant job. Police ignored his pleas for help, but that did not dissuade Nat from pursuing his dream to become a police officer. He served the City of Jacksonville for over thirty-seven years and was elected Sheriff in 1995 – the first Black sheriff for the City, as well as the first elected Black sheriff in the State of Florida since the end of the Reconstruction Era. A leader in law-enforcement as well as civil rights, Mr. Glover provides a unique perspective regarding the intersection of seeking justice and truth, while extending compassion and dignity to all people. This luncheon will be in the jury assembly room of the Bryan Simpson U.S. Courthouse. Signed copies of the book will be given to the first ten registrants.
