Lunch & Learn: Section 1983 Pro Bono Opportunities in the Jacksonville Division

Date/Time
Wednesday, August 3, 2022 – Noon to 1:00 PM

Location
Bryan Simpson U.S. Courthouse
Jury Assembly Room
300 North Hogan Street
Jacksonville, Florida

Please join us for an informative lunch discussing Section 1983 pro bono appointment opportunities in the Jacksonville Division of the Middle District of Florida. These appointments are an excellent opportunity for attorneys to gain experience in federal court, and they help fill a need for legal services for those who cannot otherwise obtain them.

The lunch will feature a panel discussion, in which panelists will address the process for serving as pro bono counsel, the Middle District of Florida’s recently-published plan for civil pro bono representation, and current opportunities available for those who are interested. Attendees will also gain insight into Section 1983 cases from practitioners who regularly handle such cases. The panel will feature United States District Judge Marcia Morales Howard, Sonya Harrell, Esq. from the City of Jacksonville, and Matthew Kachergus, Esq., from Sheppard, White, Kachergus, DeMaggio, & Wilkison, P.A., and will be moderated by Adam Smart, Esq., from Burr & Forman, LLP, who previously represented defendants in civil rights cases while serving as an Assistant United States Attorney.

Lunch will be provided at no cost to Jacksonville Federal Bar Association members and $15 to non-members.
