Illuminating Legal Limericks: Conflicts of Interest

Please join us for our ethics breakfast with Thomas E. Spahn, Counsel with McGuireWoods. This interactive program uses limericks (the last word of which the audience will have to guess) to explore ethics issues involving lawyers’ conflicts of interest rules. Among other things, the program will address: identifying the client (in the corporate and insurance contexts); basic conflicts principles (including duties to prospective clients, thrust – upon conflicts, and adversity to former clients); types of adversity (including business, financial, and “material limitation” conflicts); conflicts between clients and lawyers (including gifts from clients, settlement practice restrictions, representing unpopular clients, lawyers’ settlement of clients’ claims against them, and prospective consents). CLE pending.

Thursday, October 1
8 – 10 a.m.
Clerk’s Conference Room (9th Floor)
