Summer Series: Professionalism and Business Etiquette

July 18, 2019
10:30 am - 1:30 pm

The Ed Austin Building
311 West Monroe Street
Jacksonville FL 32202

Welcome to federal court! The Summer Series is designed for law students working in Jacksonville and nearby areas. The goal is to bring to life much of what is studied in law school. Information about all eight events is available here.

The judge is grilling you on the law, but you think she is mistaken. How do you respond? Opposing counsel is not responding to your messages, and a deadline is looming. How do you proceed? At your interview lunch, chicken in pesto sauce is on the menu. How do you avoid dripping sauce on your shirt? Join us to cover these topics and more. The Honorable Harvey Schlesinger, Senior United States District Judge, and seasoned practitioners will reflect on courtroom decorum. Then, over lunch, a professional etiquette coach will teach you how to network, interview, socialize, and dine without fear of sauce splatter and social faux pas! Please note: Due to cost, the lunch portion of this event is only for students who did not attend last year.

The presentation will be held at the Ed Austin Building in the Ceremonial Courtroom, and the etiquette lesson will be held at The River Club.

This event is limited to 30 students. Please RSVP by using the below form.

If you have questions regarding this event, you are welcome to email Mary Margaret Giannini at

Also, a few reminders: All Summer Series events are free. All events require business attire. You must have a valid i.d. to enter the courthouse. Each event requires a reservation, spaces are limited, and most events “sell out.” Be mindful that if you make a reservation, a seat will be saved for you and food will be bought for you. If you cannot attend, immediately contact Katharine Roth at (904) 549-1950 so your seat can be given to someone else.

Thank you and we look forward to having you join us!
